We have in fresh mullet and spot...Spot is the bait of choice for drum
Fishing the Chincoteague Bay there were a lot throwbacks caught today most being 12-16 inches. Only a couple of keepers caught today mostly on squid and minnows. Other species available in the bay are small seabass and a few trout, with some snapper blues near the inlet. The water is starting to clear up which will help the fishing. The water temperature is down to 68 degrees in the bay in some spots.
FYI
The Curtis Merritt Harbour Ramp will be closed for approximately 3 weeks for repairs to a huge hole near the bottom of the ramp per Wayne Merritt, Harbor Master.
On the surf today was not as good as yesterday. The blues showed up in a few numbers. Also a couple of kingfish were taken. One angler who caught a couple and ate them was impressed as their table fare was excellent he said.
