It was a beautiful day on Assateague's south beach with a mild northeast wind, moderate surf and sunny skies. The ORV Zone remained closed but that didn't deter surf anglers who trekked out to the beach carrying poles or wheeling their gear carts. The morning started out with some action when Rick A reeled in a 20 inch rock. Rick later caught another 20 some incher. Both fish were released. Fishing near Rick, Don landed a 26 1/2 inch rockfish that had a red plastic numbered tag. The tag was taken and the fish released. Leo O, not to be skunked again, followed up with a 24 inch rock. It was Leo's first rockfish from the surf. Congratulations Leo. Shortly afterward, Maria using Leo's pole got her first surf fishing lesson from the Over the Dune Gang while friend Steve looked on.
The action today was better than it had been for the last couple weeks. We are hoping it is a sign of good things to come.
Today we had some family friends from MD visiting they are pictured below riding a pony
The bottom 2 pictures are taken from the refuge. Ponies come a lot closer to the cars this time of year and the birds are everywhere
