Mark Gaskins with one of his 2 rockfish caught on the bayside.
Fishing the backside of the island has been producing flounder on the Assateague Channel. There have been plenty of small seabass in the Chincoteague Channel and snapper bluefish have been scattered around the bay. In the surf a few more kingfish are being caught on shrimp. Bluefish have also been consistant on cut bait out there. Your best bet for srum is cut bait with a mod. fishfinder rig and or 6in fishfinder rig. The Fall hours are now in effect for the beach 5am-8pm. You can get a free lifetime overnight fishing permit at the Visitor's Center all you need to do is sign in and sign out when you leave. I took a ride to the beach today and there are plenty of crabs being caught at the Refuge. Tonight we got in fresh bunker. Thats report for now. Good Luck Fishing!
