Members of the Over the Dune Gang, Rick V and Leo, braved the elements today and hit the beach in search of red drum. Armed with spot, mullet and bunker, Rick V was able to land a 35” red drum on a piece of fresh mullet using a modified fish finder rig. The drum was released. It’s not surprising that Rick caught a drum but it is surprising that “fair weather fisherman” Leo, was fishing in the rain. Leo caught a snapper blue.
Fishing on Chincoteague has been hit and miss mostly due to the weather, but we did see another red drum come off the beach and where there is one there is more. Modified fishfinder rigs with cut bait work best for this species. I had some old college friends in town and we hit up Memorial Park we caught an assortment of fish including sea bass, croaker, pigfish, and also a bluefish. In the surf there are still plenty of blues around. We have had more kingfish show up than earlier this Summer too. Crabbing is another activity that can save the day when looking for something to do. Swing on in we have 4handlines a net and bait for only $9.99. Crabbing can be done in most weather at the Chincoteague Natl. Wildlife Refuge on the way to the beach. THat area is protected by the trees and you can catch some nice crabs in the brackish water. We are looking forward to another good weekend and the winds are looking to calm down. In other news Jes and I aregoing to the Penn State game against Temple, Football games are always a good time. That's the report for now. Tight Lines...Jimmy
