Surf Report: It was a pleasure today to park and fish after the long awaited opening of the Assateague ORV zone. As of September 15 anglers were again permitted in the ORV area for the first time since its closure in June. I suppose the endangered plover eggs hatched and the green turtle eggs were washed away with Ernesto and Florence. In any event, anglers including Mr. Tony and Chuck were on the beach today with their trucks and fishing gear, many anxious to land a drum or rockfish. Unfortunately, in the area that I fished, no drum or rock were taken, however the little snapper blues were thick. Using cut bait throughout the day you could catch as many snappers as you liked. Also biting on the cut bait were perch, dogfish, skate and several small flounder. We'll try again tomorrow for the big guys. Someone has to be the first one to get one. Yesterday there were 2 puppy drum caught off the surf by Tom C. and Larry C one was one cut bait and the other was on fishbites. Pat D. caught 2 small flounder on a fly rod today, yesterday he had one keeper at 17.5 inches.
In the bay the water was chopped up. A few black tip Spinner Sharks were caught near the inlet. Here's a profile I scanned from the Sport Fish of the Atlantic Book it has a good picture with information about every fish that you could possibly catch here.

Here's this months tides at the Assateague Surf and a Tournament reminder.
