Another fine day surf casting in the Assateague ORV Zone. The rock and drum action seemed to slow a bit today but remained pretty good. Early morning brought Leo and Mr Tony each a red drum. Leo's was an 18.5 inch keeper while Mr Tony's was an inch short and was released. Later in the morning Lucky Chucky landed a handsome 17" speckled trout and Rick V caught and released a 19" rock.
You could certainly tell that the big fish are coming and that anglers have gotten wind of recent successes. There were more than twice as many trucks out in the ORV today as had been there the past couple days. I have been advised by Rangers that we better all stay east of the white marker poles along the edge of the dunes. If tire tracks are detected west of the white marker poles, I have been told that the beach will be closed to motor vehicles. Be careful because we are being watched closely and it wouldn't take much to trigger a beach closing.
LUCKY CHUCKY WITH HIS SPECKLE
MR. TONY WITH A RED THAT WAS JUST A TAD TO SHORT
LEO O. WITH HIS FIRST EVER DRUM 18.5 INCHES
Here is a Red Drum link it's 45 pages and have all that you would ever want to know about red drum
