fishing reports

Although early AM fishing on the Assateague ORV Zone didn't get going til about 0930, it still proved to be an action packed morning. RickV started out with a 19" rock fish and followed that up with a 17 incher. Mr Tony, not to be outdone, landed a 17" rock and a 17" red drum. All 4 fish were released. Mr. Tony then finished the morning off with an 18 inch red drum that made the cut. All fish were caught on cut mullet.
Tonight Lucky Chucky caught a 19 inch speckle trout on cut bunker. Other than that it was a slow night out there. A few perch and even 2 kingfish but the bigger fish were not to be found.

Conditions for surf fishing on south Assateague this morning were very poor to say the least. The southwest wind was whipping, dragging fishing weights and making it nearly impossible to hold with 6 ozs. Only a few anglers even attempted to fish. Tomorrow's forecast calls for much better conditions. This evening conditions had radically improved the wind has fallen below 5 knots, tomorrow promises to be an ideal day for surf fishing.
Yesterday I did not get a chance to go fishing we had family come in from out of town and had to entertain instead. Next time instead of going out to the bars, I will be taking them out fishing...

Surf conditions were bad today a sand storm with high surf and a west wind has not brought much luck. The over the dune gang did not do well as the ORV zone was not passable at points due to the water coming up to the dunes. Other than that it was a beautiful day with the temperatures were in the mid-70s, the water temperature of the surf dropped to 65 degrees which is a good sign for the bigger fish. Better Luck tomorrow..Jimmy Y

I might try to get out there tonight and go for rockfish. I made Jessica some chocolate covered strawberries, this will give me a go fishing pass for at least tonight :%29

Maybe it was the east wind and the rain, but for whatever reason the red drum made quite a showing at the Assateague ORV Zone for the gang of surf casters who showed up today. Mr Tony started the morning off with a 25 inch red drum. He followed that up with 3 short drum and an 18 inch keeper that he caught in the early afternoon. Late afternoon fishing in the driving rain was filled with action for anglers Leo, Chuck, Rick V and Bob of MD. Chuck lead the group with 8 red drum, 1 a keeper; Leo followed with 5, 1 a keeper; Rick V landed 4, 2 being keepers and Bob of MD, who picked a good day to show up to fish with Leo caught 2 reds. Congratulations guys.

Another tough one out on the surf today. Not even a bite in some cases. The birds were working and the dolphins came in close. One angler caught a blue one a silver spoon. Most of the time the birds were out of casting distance he said. The wind and weather are changing tomorrow and we are hopeful that the fishing action will change as well. The crew did not fare well today one of the few times they have gotten skunked this year. Good luck again tomorrow

we got a few more finger mullet in after being out for a little while
