fishing reports

There were quite a few anglers on Assateague's south beach today and numerous vehicles in the ORV Zone. There were a lot of familiar faces and a few newbys all angling for a rockfish or in some cases just a fish, any kind of fish. Rick A and Don found skates-a-plenty. The dirty water that was prevalent yesterday has cleaned up some so I guess the skates can see the bait better. The only "fish" reported this morning was a 19" rockfish that Rick V. landed.

Assateague Island Waterfowl Week is going on now November 18-26, 2006

The WV gang went out there and saw the whole sky lit up with snow geese. One V after another it was an amazing sight they said.

It was a beautiful day on Assateague's south beach with a fairly active surf. Conditions seemed pretty good for rockfish. Fishing action however was slow due in part to anglers being plagued by speckle crabs and hampered by dirty water. Several anglers did manage to catch a few red drum. Rick V, Leo O and Mr Tony caught a 16", 17" and 18" respectively. The 2 short reds were released.

Anglers today were treated to a surprise visit by Tom from the Bait Shop. Many anglers hardly recognized Tom outside the store environment. Tom spent time chatting with each and every fisherman on the beach and even found time to fish himself. Unfortunately he came up a little short on luck as far as fishing goes.

The howling wind and blowing sand on Assateague's south beach today did not deter a few dedicated anglers who braved the elements. Among those who fished the surf today were Mr Tony, Rick A and Pat M who between them landed 5 short rockfish between 22 and 26 inches and a 24 inch bluefish. Other anglers including Rick V, Leo O and Mike E were skunked - not even a bite. By later afternoon the wind was so strong, blowing nearly straight in from the sea, that it was very difficult to get any range from a cast. That's when many anglers called it a day. I tried going out there in the howling wind for 1 hour and a half. I lost a few pieces of bait but I did not hook up this evening.

Fishing the bridges Dan Bock caught this nice rockfish using a %C2%BD ounce head and bass assasin.

Surf Report 11/15/06 Another beautiful day as described by the dozen surf anglers who were out there this morning. The surf was flat this morning and the sun was out in full force. It was really warm as most people were out in t-shirts. Rick Ashman caught his first keeper rock of the season a 29 inch 8.5 pounder. Mr. Tony brought in a 17.5 inch red drum. Pat M. also had a 19 inch red drum that he released out there today.

Today turned out to be another Spring like day after the mist, fog, and drizzle ended this morning. Off the surf Pat Marallo and Don Ross both had short rockfish, there were also a lot of crabs out there so make sure to take out ample bait. The only reports of catch tonight off the beach were skates and crabs. We have just received fresh bunker in tonight at 8:00pm so I'll see you guys tomorrow.

Jeff Barnes reminded me that you can get a golden passport at age 62, he said his friend Roger Triggs uses his passport frequently. This allows you to get into all the national parks in America. You only have to be 62 to be eligible and it costs %2410 for the rest of your life.
