I've been feeling under the weather all day today so I did not go to the shop. I did hear that Joe B. from Deleware had 2 short rockfish and a lot of skates. Other than that I think the Over the Dunes Gang took the day off. I'll have another update up tomorrow...Jimmy
It was a beautiful spring-like December day on Assteague's south beach with a mild easterly wind and moderate surf action. Armed with firm fresh bunker, anglers set out after the seemingly elusive rockfish. Rick A, fishing the ORV Zone, after numerous bites, managed to land a 25 incher while Rick V lost a short one right in the breakers. Leo O and Dean, also fishing the ORV Zone each had several decent bites but were unable to make good on them. Corey K. brought in one 25 inch rockfish. A good omen is that the birds were working just beyond the sand bar for a second day today. Maybe tomorrow they'll move inside the bar cleaning up after the feeding blues and rockfish.
We are getting in live eels Wednesday morning. There has been a good rockfish bite on eels the last few days. We also got in another batch of fresh bunker tonight. Good Luck Fishing...Jimmy

The scrubbed TacSat2 missile launch that had the ORV Zone closed this morning didn't deter hard core anglers like Lucky Chucky and Con who hit the beach early trekking their gear out to the surf to watch the sunrise. It was a beautiful sunrise over a very calm ocean that looked more like a peaceful Lake Assateague. Hardy a ripple as far as the eye could see. The guys got several bites in the morning right in the beach backwash and ultimately each caught and released a 22 inch rockfish. Oh yeah - Lucky Chucky also caught a skate. Tomorrow is an east wind. Good luck.
The rockfish can rest easy for a while as Lucky Chucky will be heading to MD for Christmas. The remaining Over the Dune Gang guys will miss him as will other south beach anglers. A special thanks to Tom and Jean Carter who helped a Dune Gang member out of a nasty sand trap in the ORV and to Salisbury George for the great bluefish cakes.

From what I heard today was slow. Rick V. caught 2 skates and a 22" fat rock. Pat M. was the only angler I heard of that caught a keeper rock. Tomorrow is the launch so the beach is expected to be crowded early. Some people are going to fish later due to the launch. Also tomorrow night I will be giving a talk on catching rockfish from the surf at the Eastern Shore Angler's Club Meeting. ttyl, Jimmy
Here is a picture of Captain Brett with 2 stripers. I am in Lititz PA my wife's hometown. I talked to Leo O. who said it was another chilly day. He said he only saw one skatecaught off the surf today. Better luck to all tomorrow, Jimmy
