fishing reports

We had the first citation tautog weighed in at the shop today a 10 pound 4 ounce by Roland Bock aboard the High Strung with Capt. Kevin Merritt. The bite was good out there until the weather got bad according to the crew. They also had fish weighing 6-10 pound all nice fish. On the beach it was a skate day as they were in the majority of fish being brought into shore. Anglers are getting ready for the first day of Flounder Fishing. Good Luck out there%21%21%21%21

Here is the first report in a while. This past week we had a few keeper rockfish come off the surf. There are also some being caught in the backbays on swim baits. Today got a chance to go out and participate in the wonderful sport of surf fishing with the Over the Dune Gang. We had a really good time enjoying the weather. Lucky Chucky had the best catch of the day a 27 inch rockfish, he tried to stretch it but it just would not stretch. The rest of us had some nice pull downs and come up with a few skates. Con has gotten a rep for catching plastic bags he had 1 yesterday and pulled in 2 today. He said he limited out. Do not forget to stop by an take SUNSCREEN with you, Con and I both got burned today. We have fresh bunker that just came in tonight%21%21%21%21%21 We also have in live minnows that we will carry throughout the season. Flounder season comes in on Sunday April 1st. Rockfish closes for the month of April. Other than that the crabs have starting coming in.

It was a cold windy weekend, so hardly anyone braved the conditions. We got in our first batch of fresh bunker in yesterday. There were a few stripers caught in nets close to shore, along with some trout a local waterman said. This is a good sign as we have not seen many trout in the past few years. The shop is coming along as we are ready for things to get going around here. We have LIVE MINNOWS available now. Posted above are some pictures that were sent in my Leo O. %28trawler and turtles%29 Mrs. Nancy Triggs sent me the scenic beach pictures below.

Tom with the biggest net for some BIG fish

Hello once again from Chincoteague. It has been a while since I have written. Our season has officially started. We will be opening daily from here on out. Yesterday we got in our big order of 365 boxes full of fishing related items. That should keep us busy here for a few days. Flounder regs have changed to 18.5 inches and 5 fish per person. There are a few rockfish around most are still offshore, so we are hoping some of this springlike weather will bring the fish closer to us. Many people are starting to get geared up for the season and stopping by to get licenses. I'll be posting more often see you all soon...Jimmy
