fishing reports

Today started out overcast and turned out to be nice and sunny in the afternoon. At the beach JT Bolding talked to a park ranger who said at least one parking lot will be open tomorrow. Rick hasn%E2%80%99t been fishing to much but informed me that the ORV will be open 9/15, so he is looking forward to being out there everyday again. Happy Birthday to Mr. Tony he turned 80 and is still going strong. Other than that been busy working a the shop we are always reorganizing trying to get all the surf rods in order we have plenty of them. The crabbing continues to be strong Leo O. had over a dozen crabs in one trap and 3 flounder they were about 8-10 inches long he said. Others went clamming and seem to be doing well. We have the largest supply of clam rakes to buy and also rent check out this clam a friend e-mailed to me. Pictured below that is squid we have 4 different types of squid local which is the freshest, box squid, tube squid, and cut and clean. Once again good luck and tight lines%21

Reporting from the tackle shop we had a rainy day. Not to many people went fishing, but plenty went crabbing and were successful at it. One lady had 40 keeper crabs%21%21%21 The beach they are still working on the parking below is a picture of a dozer working on the parking lots at the Refuge. Today you still have to park by the Tom's Cove Info Center and walk. Hopefully they will have it done by tomorrow is you want to call them their number is 757-336-6122. There were a few stranglers still went to the beach despite the bad weather.

In other news Steve Irwin the "Crocodile Hunter" passed away from a ray Steve came over the top of the ray and the tail came up, and spiked him %28in the chest%29, and he pulled it out and the next minute he's gone. Here is a link to read about the story%5Burl%3Dhttp://www.cnn.com/2006/SHOWBIZ/TV/09/05/irwin.death/index.html%5Dcnn story%5B/url%5D. It's a tragic event he entertained millions our sympathy is with his family. This event reminds us how dangerous some fish can be. Here is a ray a friend found and sent me through e-mail of a big ray.

Our 9th annual surf tournament is November 10,11, and 12th. It is sponsered by Captain Steve's and Penn Reels.

Other upcoming events From mid-September to mid-October a number of hawks and falcons migrate through Assateague Island. The first migratory waterfowl arrive in September; however, the peak waterfowl migration usually occurs in November and December.

National Wildlife Refuge Week is celebrated Columbus Day Observed weekend in October. Additionally, visitors can tour the northern portion of the refuge during Thanksgiving as part of the annual Waterfowl Week Celebration

Today inshore was pretty slow once again with only a few throwback flounder and some small sea bass and even 3 porgies being reported. The water is still murky from the past storm, so keep on trying. Generally in dirty water you want darker colors on rigs due to color penetration of the sun.
Off the surf: Getting to the beach you need to have to walk a little until Wednesday because they are still working on the parking lots. There were a few kingfish caught today with an angler from Harrisonburg, VA having 6 caught off of fish bites%28bloodworm alternative%29 and shrimp. Other than that it was overcast and most vacationers went back home. School starts tomorrow on the island and it is starting to fell like the off season once again.

What a difference a day makes. Today was nice all day the sun was out. A few people fished the surf today with only a little success on croakers. The parking is limited on the beach too until Wednesday so try to make it out there early or go later in the day. If you want to call the Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge contact number is 757-336-6122.

Hi once again its college football season and the Penn State fans poured into Chincoteague. Not to much to report about today in the way of fishing. The beach was closed until 5 pm, today due to some power lines that were down at the refuge and the erosion from the storm. The sun showed up late this afternoon and brightened up many peoples day. The island is pretty packed and a lot of people went crabbing. The crabbing has been good so that kept a lot of people busy today. Tomorrow is looking to be a better day and hopefully people get out and fish...Good Luck out there, Jimmy V

we did get a nice flounder and dolphin in today. If you need any work done we can refer you to Lee Bachman.
