fishing reports
Only a few more days left to enjoy the closing of Pony Penning Festivities, so make sure to go down to the carnival and support the local fire department. The fishing continues to be red hot all over with Croaker filling the bay. There are still a decent number of keeper flounder being caught in the bay as well, but the Big Ones are being caught at the wrecks. Buck had a beautiful citation checked in this evening fish with Tye and Jacob. Also at the wrecks the trigger and spadefish continue to be plentiful. If you are going after these fish make sure to come in so we can set you up with all the tackle you need to catch these tricky fish. The Tuna Bite along the 30 line seems to be producing a good number of Yellowfin, with reports of Big Eye and Marlin at the Canyon as well. Tight Lines*

Zachaeus from PA (18.5") and Michael from MD (17.5") had a keeper a piece fishing with Captain Charlie on the Island Queen on Thursday after the pony Swim! We had 8 throwbacks also. We fished for Kingfish and had about 20 and about 5 Spot. At 11:00 am we decided to go for Flounder and did well for only an hour of working on them!
The Holiday has come and gone and we couldn't have asked for a more beautiful day for the Pony Swim. The croaker continue to be loaded in the bay. Fishbites( Bloodworm) are great to use for these fish. There continues to be a good shark bite in the evening off the surf and in the bay as well. The offshore bite continues to be the best we've had in years. And the wrecks are producing plentiful fish per usual. Hope everyone has a great rest of the holiday week, and don't forget to swing by the carnival to support the local Chincoteague Fire Department.

The time is here. Most people love it, some of the regulars scatter to avoid the crowds, but Pony Penning Week is upon us, so don't forget your Horse trailers if you want to bring back a nice fresh Chincoteague Pony. Back to business at hand.....The weather is hot, but the fishing is hotter. There has been good reports coming from the back bays all the way out to the canyons. Croaker are in full swing in the bay with the occasional kingfish, spot, flounder, bluefish, and SHARK. On the wrecks the flounder bite has been excellent with some very large fish checked in. Finally, off shore there has been reports of yellowfin from as close to the Lumps to as far as the Washington Canyon. Some nice White Marlin have been checked in along with a few Mahi-mahi Capt. Well the Summer Heat is cranking full blast on the island. And we here at Capt. Steve's will never complain about the heat, so make sure anyone on the water stays Hydrated, and use plenty of sun screen out there. You will need it. The fishing continues to be producing a lot of action with a lot of croaker in the bays. We are still getting plenty of flounder inside the bays here as well, but some of the bigger ones are being caught out at the wrecks along with tog and spadefish, triggerfish, and sea bass. The offshore bite continues to be steady with plenty of White Marlin releases, and Tuna hook ups. For anyone coming down for the Pony Swim this year.....Its going to be a late one. So remember to stay in the shade and take plenty of water if you are attending. Hope to see everyone through out the little holiday we Islanders call "Pony Penning Week". Tight Lines*
