fishing reports

Lucky Chucky does it again with this 31 inch 8 pound bluefish off the surf today. The rest of the gang welcomed back Rick Volz as he loaded up on skates in his first day back. Leo O. had 2 blues, Chuck had 2 blues, and Mr. Tony had 1. It was a nice day with the wind out of the west. We hope this is a good sign for things to come. In the bay it was really choppy which shortened the flounder fishing day. Still a few fish were caught out there. Below is a picture submitted by Patty Marshall of Chincoteague of some Poinies at the Refuge.

Stefanos brought in the biggest flounder today a 6 pound 8 ounce 24 incher he ended up with 5 total and 2 other at 3 pounds. Brandon Rife of York PA caught 2 keeper flounder at Four Mouths and had 2 throw backs. It seems like there were more fish caught at Queen Sound today in the deeper water. White bucktails worked well today. The rockfish are around so get geared up with some swim baits as the season comes in the 1st of May. A few anglers have gone to Saxis and are catching croakers and rockfish using bloodworms and squid.

Here is a picture of dinner at the shop. You cant beat fresh flounder and wine. See you all soon. Jimmy

WE now have our beach carts for rent they work great on the sand.

There were a few fish caught the past few days, along with plenty of throwbacks. The biggest has been around 22 inches caught by Rev. Raymond of Chincoteague, we are hoping this weekend brings us a repeat of last weekend. We have bloodworms in they will be here regularly from now on out.

Chuck Carter holds up his 26.5 inch 7 pound 10 oz. citation flounder. Chuck and Steve had 6 keepers and a lot of throwbacks aboard the FIN CRAZY.

Lee Irwin and Ryan Wilson had 5 keepers today the biggest weighing 4.5 pounds. The action today was at Queen Sound. Tonight we got in some nice silversides. Good Luck Jimmy

The wreck fishing was good today aboard the High Strung approx 60 keeper sea bass and 15 or 16 keeper tautog. They had many throw backs of both species. Many of the sea bass were over 3 lbs, and two of the tog were 8 lb and 8 lb. 4 oz as I recall - just short of citation size. Mrs. Lin citation sea bass was 7 lb 6 oz and was 24" long with a girth of 18". The water was 48 degrees which is still a little cold, so the fishing should definitely improve over the next few weeks. It was a great day of fishing aboard the High Strung owned and built by Kevin Merritt and his wife Cindy you can contact them for charters at %5Burl%3Dhttp://www.hooksandfeathers.com/%5DHOOKANDFEATHERS%5B/url%5D
It was another great day on the island. The weather was nice the water was clear and it only got a little breezy this evening.

Lee Irwin and Ryan Wilson had 18 total flounder with 3 keepers, a bunch were a %C2%BC inch short. Tip of the day is to let the fish eat the bait. Give them the bait . when they are chewing on it, from Lee I. Jim Messman, Jerry Linville, and Gerald Wolf from Manheim, PA has a good weekend they had 9 keeper flounder yesterday ranging from 19-23 inches up to 5 pounds. Today they had 6 keepers and 10 throwbacks 21 inches a 3.5 pounds being the biggest. Jim said the pink mylar skirts did the trick for them at Four Mouths.

Dennis Graham from Jarrettsville, MD caught this 25 inch 6 pound 9 ounce flounder in the Chincoteague Bay north side of Queen Sound Bridge.
