fishing reports

Rick V. trekked out to the beach this afternoon to make the changing tide at 3 PM and try my luck. He was pleasantly surprised to find the parking lots on both the south and north sides of the beach circle were open. Also open was ORV access. There were about 10 vehicles out on the beach and another 10 anglers on the main beach. Looked like we were back in the swing of things. Unfortunately no one told the fish. After fishing for a couple hours and speaking to several anglers, I learned that skate and small blues were the action of the day and not too many of either were caught.

Park cleanup personnel deserve big kudos for getting the place ready virtually overnight.

Hey - if you don't see Park Ranger Justin around it's because he volunteered to fight wild fires in southern California. Good luck Justin and stay safe.
Also the surf today Brad S. from Baltimore, MD had 4 sandsharks and 5 skates. Roger Triggs seemed to be the skate king with 13 out there this morning. Chris H. tricked a pompano into biting on a silver spoon. The beach was not to rough but the undercurrent was strong. The O.R.V. Section is open now about half the parking lots on the beach are open. Brad also came in and bought a beach cart these cart hold over 200 pounds and will make any trip to the beach an enjoyable one. Who wants to walk back and forth a few times and drag all their gear with them.

Offshore today on the boat Hnd-site brought in 2 citation wahoo 42 pounds and 46 pounds

The OFF ROAD VEHICLE zone is now open at the beach all the way to the hook%21%21%21

Another rainy day here on Chincoteague seems to be continuous. The inshore was pretty slow with only a few throwback flounder being reported. Tonight I got a chance to hit the surf with Chris Hanse from EMR Paintball%28 www.emrpaintball.com/ %29. We had a dozen skates he caught a 30 inch sandbar shark and i had a big ray. The action was pretty much nonstop as every time we casted we had something on or something took our bait. We were using 5 and 6 ounces as the surf has calmed down from days past.

The turn around is still not open but the is hope as the water seems to be receding. Bike Week is this week and we are seeing a lot of nice bikes rolling into town. I'll keep everyone updated on the ORV zone tomorrow is is suppose to be open as soon as I get any word I'll post it on here.

The water has calmed down quite considerably on the bay. It was still a little murky but there were finally boats out on the water. The fish were a little sluggish in feeding but there were reports of snapper blues, flounder and even some craoker being caught in the bay. Most of them were caught in the channel just in the Chincoteague Channel. Chris Hanse caught a croaker and a throw back flounder. You could see blues jumping out of the water. Take out some silver spoons, cut bait, or anything shiny for catching blues

Rick V. went out to the beach today to look around. It was high tide and the seas were rockin and rollin. The ocean had run over the parking lots again. I guess the lots will be closed at least til after this next storm passes thru. It is sad.

Looking south I could see the dunes on the piping plover and turtle egg beach. The dunes protected the beach from erosion and may have protected the eggs. Too bad the people beach didn't have dunes on their beach.

BOYS NIGHT OUT

Today the flooding was worst than yesterday as you can see from the pictures below. But it has gotten better after the high tide this afternoon, the wind has laid down so that has helped tremendously. Galen Halteman from Montgomery County, PA caught a keeper flounder 19 inches morning around 9:30 on squid at the beach on a new rod Daiwa 7 ft surf combo he bought here the day before. Beach anglers had to walk through the water to get to the beach. Many little kids were boogie boarding and playing in the puddles left by the weather and tides. According to the Weather Channel, astronomical high tides associated with the recent full moon cycle and the upcoming highest tides of the year are contributing to the high surf also associated with Florence.
