fishing reports

Surf action was a bit slow today except for the skates, sharks and an occasional perch. The Over the Dune Gang hit the beach in full force and came up empty until late in the afternoon when Lucky%3F Chucky gave up his piece of beach to Rick V and headed home. Ten minutes later Rick had a hit and landed a 13 lb black drum. Thanks Chucky from Rick V. See you all tomorrow Jimmy

Westerly winds and calm seas prevailed as four wheel drive trucks lined the beach in the ORV Zone today. It was a beautiful Sunday to be out fishing and a successful one for several anglers. In the morning, after the tide change, Rick V landed a 19 lb black drum on a fishfinder rig with peeler. Several small blues, a few kingfish and numerous sharks were also caught. The afternoon brought really flat seas that were lucky for two local anglers who landed a 36 in rock and an 18 lb drum. Small kingfish were also hitting in the afternoon. OtDG Rick reporting
SATURDAY SURF
Today we had some pretty stong winds out of the west that really helped your fish finder rig hit the sand bar off the beach. Early afternoon saw some small rockfish landed and released. These guys were in the 25 in range and were hitting on peelers and clams. In the late afternoon when the tide finally turned around, and most of the Over the Dune Gang called it a day, one lucky angler landed a 12 lb black drum while Rick V. brought in a 36 inch, 15 lb rock. Thanks OtDG Rick for that report. Nice rock.

I've been out of town. The fishing has been looking good. Thanks to the many friends who have been keeping me informed. I will also have the final some pictures and results posted from the flounder tournament this past weekend when I get back. ttyl Jimmy

The Frederick Crew does it again

Capt. Charlie Koski with a 21 inch 3 lb.11oz. flounder this morning he is currently leading the tournament

Doug Larmore with a 30 inch 10 pound rockfish he caught off the surf. I'm on my way out of town. I'll try to get all more updates as soon as I get close to a computer. Tom will still be here at the shop giving advice and taking photos. Stop by and visit

Jerry and Sandy with this 41 inch Doormat on the Little Spritz. They wouldn't give up their secret spot.

James Todd from WV is leading the tournament with a 19 inch 2 pound 15 ounce flounder the only one brought in today. Not to many people fished due to the rugged conditions. A few people tried the surf with not much luck today. A few sandsharks was the best I heard of anyone who surf fished. Tomorrow the wind is suppose to shift to West so we are hoping for better conditions. Better luck tomorrow...Jimmy

The Over the Dune Gang with some Maryland friends hit the surf today looking for black drum and was surprised when the rockfish showed up instead. Just after low tide, fishing peeler on a fish finder rig, I caught the first rock that measured 31 inches. Shortly afterward Maryland Bob landed a 29 incher that weighed 8.5 lbs, and Over the Dune Leo reeled in a 32 incher that weighed in at 12.5 lbs. Bob's and Leo's fish were also caught on peeler. Fortunately for the Gang, as of May 16, 28 inch rockfish is legal, making all 3 fish keepers. Rick V also caught a tasty little kingfish. Thanks for the report OtDG Rick%21 I got a chance to fish when Brad S. gave me a call at the shop that he landed a black drum. I got my things and headed to the beach to fish the flood tide. The conditions were overcast and breezy very fishy. In a 1/2 hour I was hooked up and brought in the black drum. Brad and I both caught our drum on the 7/0 modified fishfinder rig. Gunter also fished with us and had his pole dragged into the water luckily he fished it out. Make sure to put your sand spikes in well or get the heavier spikes, because these fish are powerful and are known for stealing rods. Our flounder tournament starts tomorrow so Good Luck to everyone fishing it. You can still sign up at the shop before you go fishing this weekend.
