fishing reports
Finally some offshore news to report from the boat "Goober" yesterday Todd and Eddie Lowry along with John Stellars had 3 yellowfin tuna all in the 50 %E2%80%93 60 pound range fishing the Washington Canyon using ballyhoo. Eddie is pictured above with one of the yellowfin, he also said they had a marlin in the baits but did not take anything.
The surf was like an old farm pond today according to Roger Triggs. He participated in take a grandson fishing day. His grandson Jeff caught the frst bluefish then Grandpa Roger caught the next 7 capping off a successful surf day. Others also got into the blues mullet rigs did well again. People got away with uaing 4 ounces of weight since the wind was at thier backs. A few bigger sharks were also caught on cut bait 3 to 4 feet which made an exciting fight for anglers. In the bay the crabbing was good once again. There was even a 18 inch flounder that sqeezed himself into a crabpot.
%09The rockfish have made a bit of a comeback the last few nights. Outgoing tide once again is key and calcutta and tsunami's anre doing well for them. Along with the 6 inch white and pink curltail. A few locals also have been catching trout on the 6 inch curtails, but the blues are also taking them cutting the tails every time they hit them. It's always a good idea to take a few extra.
Here's is a picture below of Laura with a nice flounder taken aboard %5Burl%3Dhttp://http://www.geocities.com/driftawaycharters/index.html%5DDRIFTAWAY%5B/url%5D
On the Regina S Eric Wimer, Doug Daisey, and Mike Gibson had a great 2 day trip. They brought back 123 seabass, 1 flounder, and 1 triggerfish. Fishing the offshore wrecks.
Tony Leedy from Cashtown, PA had a good morning with a 16.5 18.5 and a 22.5 inch pictured below fishing the Assateague Channel using minnows and a pink bucktail. Looks like the fishing is doing a little better.
In the Surf the wind picked up and the blues hit hard again. Mullet is still doing the trick for the blues. There was also kingfish caught on cut spot did the job for them today. Some 3 foot sharks were also brought in and seemed to give the best fight of the day.
Some info in blues: Blues come in all sizes and tend to school together according to size. Smaller Blues do not usually hang with the bigger blues for fear of being eaten. The world record bluefish is 31 lb and 12 ounces. The smaller blues taste better because their oily glands do not produce as much oil giving them their "fishy" taste
A real Chincoteague Flounder caught aboard the Wonderful One people always ask if this is a real picture or doctored up. It is a real picture with a 22 inch flounder held up ahead of the camera by Bob's brother. Capt. Wayne Lewis has said the fishing has been a little slow but expects the flounder fishing to pick up.

Today was a beautiful day on Assateague with a mild easterly wind and calm seas. It was also a good day for surf angling action. Early in the morning only a few blues were hitting, while sharks were the main attraction. Darrel D of NJ is pictured holding this 36 incher that put up quite a battle. The shark was nailed on peeler. As the day wore on and the tide went out, the blues came on strong. Small blues were caught on cut bait while larger blues %2812" %E2%80%93 18"%29 were caught mainly on mullet rigs. Also pictured is Capt. Hook, a robbergull. If you look closely you can see a 5/0 hook on leader handing from the Capt's beak. He hasn't learned his lesson and still walks the beach looking for angler victims to steal from.
Tonight I got a chance to hit the surf around sunset the blues were hitting well once again on cut bait. Had close to a dozen blues and one 3 foot shark most of the blues were small7-12 inches. I had 2 that were 16 inches and 18 inches. My uncle Steve came out and ht a few blues using mullet rigs. I was using the modified fish finder rig. It was a nice breeze blowing and the conditions were great. Another good time on Assateague Surf. Time for surf fishing is getting limited for me next Saturday is the bg day. Most people are saying after your married the fishing stops. That is not the case here hopefully anyway...
We got in some finger mullet tonight looks really good...see you tomorrow Jimmy

Another good surf day out there with Lucky Chucky leading the way on the south beach. Cut bait was the ticket once again as the blues hit hard and ofter. Mixed in with the blues were some kingfish, sharks, and even a few croakers. The action remained steady throughout the day with a few spurts of being slow. In the bay a few flounder are being caught although many are shorts. Trout action picked up around the CV bouye at sunset. The crabbing is going strong Leo O had 30 in his crabpots in the Chincoteague Channel. That's what was served for dinner tonight along with some house wine.
Sharks were the catch of the day on Assateague's south beach. Calm seas and northwest winds kept the blues away while the sharks came in to provide angling action. One lucky angler landed a 2 foot plus shark on a mullet rig while Lucky Chucky, assisted by Mr Tony, landed a 3 footer that gave Chuck quite a battle. Also taken in the ORV zone was a kingfish caught by Mr. Tony and a 17.5 inch flounder that Rick V caught on cut spot.
