fishing reports

The beach is now open it opened at 12 noon on Friday morning there are approx 400 parking spots and the Off Road Vehicle Zone is also open.  This is great news and the recovery peroid was quick with as much sand which had to be moved.  It looks to be a beautiful weekend for the island.  Come and visit as we always love seeing people here on the island.  Our friends Victor and Harrison caught over a dozen fish including some small blue fish and silver perch, seabass, and a oyster cracker fishing at memorial park.  Off the surf
Brian DuBois from Ravena, NY caught this shark using cut bait, remember all sharks need to be 54'' to keep the toothy ones anyway and always check back to regulations for protected species of sharks..  Dogfish with no teeth can be taken with no size and creole limits.  Use cut bait for the bluefish and sharks to give you the best shot at hooking up.  We have in fersh bait spot and mullet and also big live minnows with the largest selection of frozen bait and tackle around.  Swing on in for all your beach/ fishing need.  We appreciate your business and are thankful for everything being back to "normal" around here.

Stop on in we are glad to have the island back to normal after some bad weather.  We have in live minnows, bloodowrms, and the largest selection of frozen baits and fishing tackle around.  We open at 7am everyday and are here to help you out.  The past couple of days have been really nice around here a lot of people are sneaking in a quick vacations before schools start.

Everything looks great and back to normal, there was some extra sand which built up on the beach a small cut through which will most likely fill in soon.  The parking lots had 3 foot of sand on them from Hurricane Irene.  Chincoteague is truely a blessed place and we thank mother nature for sparing us of what could have been disasterous.  Overall the damage was minimal and we thank all our Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge employees for getting the CNWR for working in such a fast manner to let everyone back onto our prestine beach.  Tomorrow Wedesday August 31 there will be a shuttle running from 10am until 5 pm tentatively from The Wildlife Loop Parking Lot and the Herb Bateman Center Parking Lot to the Beach this will give you another oppertunity to head to the beach without having to make the 1.5 mile treck by foot or bike.  The workers of the CNWR have been working hard to get everything open back to normal; the beach parking lots look to be open from 400-600 spaces this Friday.  I will keep you more informed as more information becomes available.

The woldlife loop parking lot as busy as I've ever seen it the parking lots were closed today so you either hiked or biked it to the beach 1.5 miles, a good thing was that there were plenty of Ponies out making an appearance and making a lot of people happy.

Hello all. The GREAT NEWS is we all survived Irene and never lost power through out the whole storm. The winds were no where near as high as predicted and the water level stayed relatively low considering there were 80mph gusts at moments coming through. All in all we made out pretty well. I've been unable to go down to the beach to see what kind of impact it had out there, but preliminary reports are pretty good. The beach is scheduled to be re-opened on WEDNESDAY. Thanks for all the well wishes and prayers. Hopefully everyone faired as well at home as we did on the shore

Jason Roberson caught this bad boy hit on a spot head at incoming high tide. Fighting equipment used (lol) was a 15 foot Shakespeare ugly stick. Penn 9500 international spinning real with 30 pound triline big game. (all equipment was bought at your store).  The ring used was one of our surf shark rigs from a past outing.

Many of the island visitor's time of year is finally upon us. This is the time where things start to creep along at a more islandly pace. The bait fish are really moving in. And whenever these bait fish move in, the big fish are sure to follow. There have been a good number of people catching red drum on the barrier islands just south of us, and I'm sure whenever someone works up the courage to try a Peeler on a Modified Fish Finder Rig we will have some nice pics of the first Red Drum of the Fall as well.  The Croaker are starting to pick back up and get larger. The  Flounder bite in the bay has slowed down a little since the last storm came through, but at the wreck they continue to be plentiful. At the wrecks there are also plenty of the usual suspects, including: spadefish, triggerfish, bluefish, Seabass, shark, bonito, skip jacks, mahi-mahi, and many others. Offshore, if you are going to the Canyons, you are most likely over shooting all the fish. There is a good number of fish being caught between the parking lot and lumps(especially the 30 line).

Sorry for the late post..... Hopefully some of the crowd made it to the Open House on Assateague in the AM. The second meeting is from 5pm-7pm.
