Capt. Kevin Merritt and crew aboard "Tools of the Trade" had another amazing day offshore. They brought in some great pics of 3 beautiful white marlin they landed and got they're citations written out. They Hooked up to 5 total, had a few wahoo bites, and hooked into a nice blue marlin as well but failed to land it. congrats on the citations fellas.
It's been a long weekend as I was in Pennsylvania visiting family and going to a Penn State game. We had a great time, I did not have internet for a few days. Pete e-mailed me a report to put up for the past few days. Here is the report...
With winds blowing ENE the last 3 days we are looking for the red drum bite to really turn on off the surf the next few days. Fishing has still been productive off the surf with a couple drum reported caught and released in the evening on Friday. There were some nice bluefish and a few big shark caught saturday in the choppy surf, but Sunday's surf report is a lot more calm with the wind blowing ENE only 8 knots on Sunday which sounds like a perfect wind to turn the Reds on today. There were also a few kings and croaker reported in the surf and along the inlet. The flounder have started to show up in the bay a little more consistently, and with the water supposedly clearing up in the days to come expect the flatties to be showing up with some nice pics on the site. Also the Striper have started to show up near the bridges and structure at night around the island, so be sure to stop in to check out the hottest swim baits and jig head/tail combosfor the season. -Tight Lines

September 21, 2009 4-7pm Wor-Wic Community College 3200 Campus Drive Salisbury, MD September 22, 2009 4-7pm Paul Sarbanes Coastal Ecology Center 11802 Marsh View Lane Berlin, MD September 23, 2009 4-7pm Chincoteague Community Center 6155 Community Drive Chincoteague, VAMembers of the Over the Dune Gang, Rick V and Leo, braved the elements today and hit the beach in search of red drum. Armed with spot, mullet and bunker, Rick V was able to land a 35” red drum on a piece of fresh mullet using a modified fish finder rig. The drum was released. It’s not surprising that Rick caught a drum but it is surprising that “fair weather fisherman” Leo, was fishing in the rain. Leo caught a snapper blue.
Fishing on Chincoteague has been hit and miss mostly due to the weather, but we did see another red drum come off the beach and where there is one there is more. Modified fishfinder rigs with cut bait work best for this species. I had some old college friends in town and we hit up Memorial Park we caught an assortment of fish including sea bass, croaker, pigfish, and also a bluefish. In the surf there are still plenty of blues around. We have had more kingfish show up than earlier this Summer too. Crabbing is another activity that can save the day when looking for something to do. Swing on in we have 4handlines a net and bait for only $9.99. Crabbing can be done in most weather at the Chincoteague Natl. Wildlife Refuge on the way to the beach. THat area is protected by the trees and you can catch some nice crabs in the brackish water. We are looking forward to another good weekend and the winds are looking to calm down. In other news Jes and I aregoing to the Penn State game against Temple, Football games are always a good time. That's the report for now. Tight Lines...Jimmy
Brandi Lowe with her first ever shark off the surf they aloso had some spot too.
Fishing has been pretty good off the surf here lately with mostly pansized fish. There is spot, kingfish, and snapper blues being caught. Cut bait is workiung best for the blues; mullet rigs with finger mullet are doing the trick. Spots have been plentiful at different parts of the tide take bloodworms and or fishbites for best success and some small hooks( EC small surfballs do the trick). If you want to target sharks take out cut bait we have in fresh mullet and spot too. In the back bays a few keeper flounder are being caught. Some croakers were also hitting at Queen SOund off the rocks and north side of Assateague bridge (Piney Island). Offshore wrecks have been producing some triggers, seabass, and flounder. We have in the 7 inch flounder belly gulp which when combo up with some Spro Jigheads have been a deadly combination on the flounder. We have had some beautiful weather the past few days, The dolphin have also been plentiful at the beach putting on shows for the onlookers. For all you Off Road Vehicle users the ORV zone is open all the way to the hook. It does get skinny near the CG station so use caution when crossing and be aware of the tides. We have free tide charts here with the fishing regulations at the shop. For all hunters: We have the new rules and regulations book and also have in steel shot for marshhenning. That's the report for now. Tight Lines...

It's been a little slow around the bay here after the blow. There are still a few flounder being caught by some charters, still a lot of undersized flounder. Eels and seabass were also comon catches in the back bay. Off the beach there is a mix bag of fish, some snapper blues, spots, a few kings and of course skates ande sharks. We recommend taking out some smaller hooks and some bigger hooks 5/0 to 7/0 for the drum rockfish sharks... We have in fresh spot and fresh mullet. Live minnows and everything you need for a positive fishing experience. Thats the report for now. Tight Lines!
