Chincoteague Fishing Report

Surf fishing is still on fire. Anglers using bloodworms and cut bait spot/mullet faired best on the kingfish. There were not as many spot caught today, but there are still a few around. I took a ride to the beach with Leo O. We took 4 cast and ended up with 3 kingfish, kept 2 for lunch this afternoon. They were biting light so it is better to hold your rod for maximum hookups. Fishing started off a little slow in the back bay after the storms we had last night. In the inlet there were still some kingfish found and some big rays. The Poontang hooked in 2 rays the biggest bent their gaff and shattered a rod. It was over 6 foot across and took 45 minutes to bring to the boat. In other bay action some spot and kings were found in the Assateague Channel. Today there was also a couple small croaker caught. There was a few boats that were going to try the offshore wreck and tuna fishing but they held off for tomorrow the seas should be better. That's going to be all for tonight. Tight Lines...Jimmy

Happy Birthday Lee who turned 42 today. He got a brand new 7 foot Penn Pro Guide rod with Penn 4500ssg reel, on his first cast ever at teh beach he landed a keeper trout 13 inches. He also had a few kingfish and spot on a quick trip to the beach using fishbites and fresh spot.
Guess who's back and tighter than ever (for now); it's the one and only "Poontang"! A few hours ago, they caught a whole lot of spot and some kingfish. We were having fun 'til we got chewed up by flies near the entrance at Curtis Merrit said Garrett Irwin as he was turning green from the high waves at the inlet. We think tomorrow will be alot better (trigger-fish season is upon us). The Poon' ended up with over 50 spots about 25 kingfish, 4 flounder throwbacks of course largest 18.5 inches they were all tagged fishing the CV bouye.
Westley Ingersoll on Miss Junebug, with grandparents Bill & June Mears, caught some nice Kingfish, plus a load of spot. It was Westley's first time fishing and he picked it up super fast catching a lot of fish, looks like he is hooked.
Patrick Magdalinski, and his older brother Anthony, from Blue Bell, PA, have been coming to Chincoteague as long as they have lived, and never as many Kingfish in surf, but at least a dozen of them, plus flounder.

The inshore wrecks were productive today as Capt. Joe reported spadefish, triggerfish, and tautog on a charter trip today. The spadefish are finally starting to bite again he said. If you are going to go to the surf take some fresh bait spot/mullet, fishbites, squid with smaller hooks it has been one of the best Summers in a while. JT Bolding was at the shop this afternoon, he said do not forget to take out pliers, they are very important and every angler should always have a pair with them at all times. Just some advice from an expert. It has been another long day. Tight Lines...Jimmy

Captain Steve's Fishing Report

Another action packed day here on the island. The surf fishing is still productive with kingfish and spots hitting well in the morning. Evenings there have been a few trout showing up caught on cut bait cut spot/mullet. I got a chance to go out before work and catch a few kingfish they bit best on the ec small surfballs with cut spot. There were other anglers hitting spots earlier on fishbites/squid combo. In the back bays still a lot of spot and kingfish hitting. Jim Dragger hit a big school of spot and kingfish in the Assateague Channel he was steady pulling in fish for a few hours before the storm hit and he called it a day. The small hooks with squid/fishbites did the trick today. A few people came in who caught some flounder too all went back due to them being out of season. It looks like some better conditions for tomorrow so we will have a better wreck and offshore report when we have more anglers going out. We got in our Penn Torque rods and reel especially made for vertical jigging, we also go tin our vertical jigs fully restocked. We can line your reels we carry up to 100 pound power pro and can have it professionally installed in our line winding department.

In the back bay there are a lot alot of spot. Capt Wayne said he caught more spot fishing today than he has in the last 15 years he has been chartering. A lot of doubles about 3 hours of steady pulling in fish. The action is going strong right now. The Assateague Va surf is still on fire with a mixture of spot, kingfish, and some blues were also there today. A few spike trout also made a showing. Take out the small EC surfballs with fishbites and bloods for the best productivity. We also have some spottie rigs a double hook rig with yellow and pink tubing which works great on the spots, the hooks are really sharp and the right size for these fish. If you want to target the bluefish take some cut bait we have fresh spot and mullet available. Tight Lines...Jimmy

She is part of the "Hummer" clan(40+ members) that stay at Sea Tag every year. Wayne Hummer couldn't make it this year, we wish him the best and expect we'll see him next year. There are still plenty of kings in the inlet along with small spot, flounder and trout. Kristi's fish was the only keeper flounder we had this week, but there have been others caught so there are still a few around. A reminder, flounder season closes on the 21st for 10 days.

What a day here on Chincoteague the fishing is awesome right now. I hit the surf early before work and had around a dozen spot and a nice kingfish. Others experienced similar success as when you threw your bait out you were getting hit constantly. The bite did well throughout the day. Chincoteague Fishing Report

In offshore action chunking at the Lumpy the "Bottom Watcher" Chris Lowe scored this 95# bluefin tuna they also had another bigger tuna released quick by Capt. Dave Lowe. There was a 8 foot shark chasing it. You never know what you are going to see out there.
Fishing Report for today. In the surf this morning there were some kingfish caught and some spot too. Along with skates and an occasional shark. Bait of choice was fishbites/bloodworms tipped with cut bait spot or mullet. You will always increase your chances of hooking up when putting cut bait or squid along with fishbites. Small hooks are the key to catching both spot and kingfish due to their small mouths. Talking to the bay fishermen tonight the inlet area was producing kingfish earlier in the day and spot too, there are also small flounder with a few keepers mixed in the back bay. The bluefish showed up for a bit this afternoon, snappers were taking cut baits best.
A nice kingfish taken from the inlet. Kingfish are some of the best eating fish once again. They are not as bony as croakers they have firm sweet meat.
Check out the hermit crabs they make great pets. We have some jumbo hermits too.

Pictured above is the Baltimore Brad crew. They did well on the dolphin on the overnight trip with October Moon. The biggest dolphin weighed in at 18.9 pounds.
Donna Reed caught this 82 pound bluefin tuna aboard JJ's Toy pictured with her is Capt. Jeff Jaras. They were chunking at Lumpy they had a total of 3 bft all in the 80 pound plus range Todd Reed and John Meek also were along for the trip.

It was another good day of fishing. Every day of fishing is good because you do not have to go to work. As many of our customers say. Still alot of undersized flounder with a few keepers mixed in. There was a 24 inch flounder taken off the pier at Memorial Park. If you want some action take some small hooks over there with some bloodworms, and you can catch fish. This is especially good for children when you want to keep their attention there have been a lot of black wills hanging out there recently( small seabass). In the surf this morning the kingfish dominated most the action with a few spots. Tonight was the oppisite a lot of spot were caught and a few kings too. There are a lot of crabbers and a lot of crabs too. Bunker is the best crab bait, there have been some huge crabs caught. This is an inexpensive activity fun for all ages, and it will keep you busy for hours. That's all for today tight lines.

We have in nice butterfish. Get out and catch some fish!

Chicnoteague Fishing Report

It was another great day here on this island. Inshore bay fishermen did well on spot and kingfish. The flounder were a bit harder to bring home still plenty of smaller ones being brought in . The spot and kings are being taken on bloodworms, fishbites, squid, and shrimp. Off the surf it was a little bit of everything with some nice spot being caught. I went out tonight for 5 cast caught 3 fish a spot, bluefish 9 inches, and a kingfish it was beautiful out there as the moon lit up the beach this evening. The fish were biting well every time I threw in the bait was taken. We have plenty of fresh spot, I was using spot tonight. I always like taking out at least 2 baits give me and the fish more of a variety. Small EC surfballs did the trick once again. In offshore action it was hit and miss today 1/2 the boats hooked up with tuna today. There were also some king makeral, bluefin, yellowfin, and mahi-mahi. Thanks Capt. Glenn for the king mackerel, that is going to be lunch tomorrow. It's another late night better get going. Tight Lines...Jimmy

This was their first time ever wreck fishing it turned out to be great day, their bait was stolen every 5-10 mins. They finished up with 8 spades and 2 triggers also saw two citation sheephead but wouldn't look twice at the bait. Three tau-tog were just an inch under keeper size. Total of 30 or so fish were caught with 5 different kinds of fish.
[image]caught this 3 pound 19.5 inch flounder off a dock at East Side. He won the first flounder competition with his family and made $5.
